Impressions: Oh. My. Gosh. When I tell yous that I loved this book… I mean that I LOVED this book! First of all, when I bought this book I was non looking for a thriller per se. I was aimlessly scanning books and the cover stood out immediately- don't you call up information technology'south great?. So there was that. So, I read the blurb and I was sold. Missing children, murder, unsolved cases and kid perpetrators? I mean, what more could you lot ask for from a thriller!

Thoughts: Given my first impressions, I expected an open up and shut detective, cat and mouse game, followed by a satisfying arrest. Case closed. But I got so much more than this. Lackberg conveyed this plot through the use of carefully crafted parallel stories to pb us along: the story of Stella, the daughter who vanished 30 years ago; the story of Nea, who's disappearance kicks off the book; and finally, a 17th century Swedish woman taken in by her sister after her ain hubby dies. This, in conjunction with a number of character perspectives effectually past and present events resulted in a story that was circuitous, thrilling and tragic.

We hear the stories of several Syrian refugees granted asylum by Sweden and bear witness to the stark loneliness, isolation and cultural deprivation experienced by people who have been forced away from their homelands. We also run into the frightening speed with which prejudice takes root and becomes actively dangerous. We meet the bear upon of trauma in the moment, but besides how it travels downwards through generations in the form of rotten secrets and terrible hurting. Nosotros find the terrible means in which people are dehumanised across fourth dimension and space. Make no mistake, this story is a tragedy on so many levels- wait this. But it is all the more splendid considering of it. A truthful snapshot of society today, indeed. The main critique that I take is that there were SO MANY characters that information technology made my head spin! I ofttimes felt confused nearly who each character was, and merely about three quarters of the way through did I brainstorm to recall which character belonged to which plot- so you may need a notebook to accompany you lot while yous read this to help you grasp this faster than I did.

Ideal Audition: A must-read for Crime Fiction/ Psychological Thriller fans 1 and all! While it tin can be read as a standalone, it is actually several books into a series, so experience free to start as earlier late as you like!
